Here's rock solid evidence you aren't so different from the other creators and entrepreneurs you're comparing yourself to. And the permission to cut that shit out.....
If you're anything like most of us, you spend too much time trying to determine what you're doing wrong instead of recognizing what you're doing right.
It's ok. Turns out that's a pretty human thing to do.
But, it's not helping.
Not one bit.
You see, the longer you sit in self-doubt the longer it will take for you to start doing something.
And when you start doing something that's when you start to experience:
- Progress
- Positive affirmations
- A sense of purpose and belonging
- Pride in being you
I know, it's all a little woo; but what isn't.
I'm 43. Soon to be 44.
I know who Stewart Smalley is. I know what an affirmation is.
And for plenty of us; that feels....uncomfortable.
I believe you young-ins would say, "it's giving ick."
But, it doesn't have to be that way. Why? Two reasons.
- You actually are a certified badass
- The folks you're comparing yourself to are fallible; seriously.
I'm not one to point fingers and poke holes but here's what I notice on the regular.
I subscribe to and read A LOT of the thought influencers and creators on LinkedIn and X.
I get their emails in my inbox. Engage with their LinkedIn posts. Read their Tweets before bed.
And do you know what I see? Constantly?
- Typos
- Terrible writing
- Obvious missed opportunities
- Bad advice
- Clearly under-thought takes
Is that stopping them from posting, tweeting and emailing?
No freaking way. Why? Because they've solved one thing.
Eliminating, or at least managing, the voice in their head so they can complete the single most important part of the whole damn equation.
Showing up consistently.
If you're reading at least a few of the right people you'll see them show their fear on occasion. You hear it in the words they say. See it in the sincerity of their messaging.
There are times it gets hard for everyone. Those of us that are most successful find a way or develop a method to NOT let those moments steer the ship.
And I have to be honest with you here. Every time I see a typo or a grammatical error it’s a feather in my cap.
Not because I want for them to fail or make mistakes but because it provides more evidence that the people I look up to are human.
That they make mistakes and it’s ok.
That they don’t have everything figured out from Day 1 or Day 4,387.
Success in life and success in business is and always will be about at bats.
Create a system and a mentality that allows you to go to bat no matter the circumstances and you’re going to win.
When approaching life with that perspective the odds will always be in your favor.
Until next time.
